After illness or surgery, there is a gap between being discharged and being back — and most people are never given a bridge across it. Gentle, adapted movement is that bridge, taken at your pace and after medical clearance.
In Brief
The weeks after illness or surgery leave a real gap between hospital discharge and normal life — strength is down, confidence is down, and standard exercise classes are too much. Gentle, adapted movement is the bridge: chair-supported practice, breath-first sequencing, sessions at your home. We are not physiotherapists and this is not rehab — it is restorative practice for after your medical team clears you, and we will always keep that boundary explicit.
The hospital sends you home and calls it done — and it is not done. You are discharged, not recovered. Strength is down, stamina is down, confidence in your own body is down, and the advice you leave with is usually some version of "take it easy and gradually get back to normal." What nobody hands you is the bridge: how to move again, at sixty-five or seventy-five, in a body that just went through something. If that is where you are on the Costa Blanca, this is what the bridge actually looks like.
The Gap Nobody Gives You a Bridge For
After illness or surgery, the body deconditions fast — muscle mass and balance measurably decline with even short periods of bed rest, and at our age the rebuilding is slower than the losing. The result is a specific and common limbo: too well for the hospital, not well enough for a normal class. A regular yoga or exercise class asks for a floor you may not be able to get down to, a pace set by someone else, and a drive you may not be up for. So most people do nothing — and the gap stretches from weeks into months.
The bridge is gentle, adapted movement — movement scaled to the body you have today, not the one you had before or the one a class is designed around.
What "Gentle" Actually Means at 65+
- • Chair-adapted practice — real movement with the chair as support, so getting to the floor is never the price of entry
- • Breath-first sequencing — the breath leads and the body follows; nothing is forced, nothing is a performance
- • Sessions at your home — when energy is limited, travel is the barrier; we come to you across Altea, Albir, and Benidorm
- • The body you have that day — each session is adapted on the day: surgery site, energy level, and what your medical team has cleared
An Honest Word About Scope
This one matters most of all, so it gets its own section: we are not physiotherapists, doctors, or rehabilitation providers, and what we offer is not medical treatment or rehab. If you are in the medical phase — physio prescribed, wound care, post-operative protocols — that phase belongs to your medical team, full stop. What we do begins after clearance: the restorative, confidence-rebuilding movement that helps you feel at home in your body again once the clinicians say gentle exercise is fine. If you are unsure whether you are cleared for it, ask your doctor first — and ask us; we will tell you honestly, including when the honest answer is "not yet."
What Helps (and What We Do)
Private yoga is the primary fit: one-to-one, in your home, adapted entirely to your body that day — Himalayan-tradition practice scaled to chair level, at €150 for the hour. Breathwork is the companion: breathing practices are the lowest-load entry point there is, usable from a chair or even from bed, and they rebuild the stamina floor that recovery erodes.
- • First conversation — free, no obligation
- • Single session — €150, any of the seven services, at your home or ours
- • Altea Transition Program — €540 for six sessions; some clients use it as a structured rebuilding arc after illness
- • Fermentation class — €375, 2.5 hours — for when you are further along and want a small room again
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I start gentle movement after surgery or illness?
Only after your medical team clears it. Surgeons and physicians give specific timelines for a reason — follow theirs first. What we offer is restorative practice for the phase after clearance: rebuilding confidence, stamina, and ease in the body once gentle exercise is medically fine. If you are unsure, ask your doctor, then ask us.
Is this the same as physiotherapy or rehabilitation?
No — and the distinction matters. Physiotherapy and rehab are medical services prescribed and delivered by clinicians. We are holistic practitioners, not physios or doctors. Our work complements medical care by supporting the phase after it: gentle, adapted movement at your own pace, not treatment for the condition itself.
I cannot get down on the floor. Can I still do yoga?
Yes. Chair-adapted practice is real practice — the chair provides the support and the floor is never required. Breath leads, the body follows at whatever range it has today, and sessions happen in your own home so travel is not the barrier.
What if I am too weak or too tired for a class?
That is exactly who this is for. Private sessions are scaled to the energy you have that day — some days that is chair movement, some days it is breathing practice and nothing more. There is no pace to keep up with and no one else in the room. The first conversation is free and commits you to nothing.
If you are in the gap between discharged and recovered — in Altea, Albir, Benidorm, or anywhere along the coast — the first conversation costs nothing: get in touch, or read about private yoga. In English, at your home or online.
"The hardest week of recovery is the one after everyone stops checking on you. Discharged does not mean recovered — it means the medical part ended and the rebuilding part is yours alone. That is where gentle work belongs."
